Ahoy surveyors – today the brand new Architect and Accuracy update has made its way from the Evolving Beta branch into the main game – and been implemented both here and across all other platforms!

Take a look at the new features, visual improvements and more in the trailer!

This update focuses on making the combat feel punchy, tighter and more rewarding, whilst altering how resources and population work along with brand new high tier Faction buildings, all combining to give more options when it comes to painting your civilisation across the Great Ursee.

Full patch notes:

New Architecture Content

● The Mancer Order have new top-tier buildings that house a lot more population, unlock if you install their leader, align with them, or have a Mancer population of 2500 and higher.
● The Mancer Order now have floodlights on some buildings as a flourish.
● The Mancer Order’s leader, ‘Lord Illuminator’, palace building has been improved.
● The Imperial Remnant have new top-tier buildings that house a lot more population, unlock if you install their leader, align with them, or have an Imperial population of 2500 and higher.
● The Imperial Remnant now have flags on some buildings as a flourish.
● The Bannerless have a new alternative second citadel type.

New Mechanics
● Commanders and Captains unlocked within a scenario save are now available in free build.

● Workers will upgrade their houses if resource access is gained.
● Special buildings give 40 splinters.
● All trade ships now give 1 splinter per journey, and merchant Princes give 30.
● Requirements for higher-tier houses are now more stringent (Stone cannot be built upon wooden foundations for instance)
● 1 splinter is given per population increase into your treasury.
● Splinters from trade and population growth can be added to your treasury from within the inventory or it’s automatically collected after dawn.
● Splinters from trade and population are shown separately in the inventory.
● Captains and Commanders from vassalised factions will work for you, but not if a rejected Captain is assigned to the same route.
● Turrets can be individually destroyed on a ship or airship.
● The ‘I’ key, LB or L1 buttons now open the inventory.
● The worker cost for command towers is now only applicable when a commander is installed. It is equal to the tower’s “power” and related to the number of units it spawns.
Balancing and Accuracy
● Late-game combat splinters should now always be at least 200 splinters.
● Hostile or neutral settlements have a reduced impact on trade-route security.
● Rebuilding surveyor cost has been reduced to 500 splinters.
● Speed and trigger distance have been increased for projectiles to improve accuracy/lethality.
● Unit amounts have been increased for most Commanders.
● Unit repair cost halved.
● Combat Captains have an increased impact on trade-route security.
● Traderoute length has an increased impact on trade-route security
● Ballistics prediction has been adjusted to aim tighter on the target (less predictive) to account for closer distances and higher projectile speed.
● Turrets re-acquire targets in front of their sights rather than general vicinity (less downtime).
● Turrets no longer fire when obstructed by friendlies.
● Turrets will engage with an enemy if it is firing directly at them (defend themselves).
● Enemy raid formations have been tightened to ensure that they stay closer together.
● Turrets part of a hostile settlement are double-checked as targets (prevent them from being targeted).
● Reduced the chance for Bannerless houses to spawn.
● Several Captains have expanded cargo manifests to help in managing large colonies.
● Unrest amongst factions will only lead to war if you have a sizeable war battlegroup, with the Bannerless being the easiest to trigger and Mancer the hardest.

● Improved readability on Steamdeck.
● Steamdeck starts with an increased UI scale.
● Twitch integration has been removed from Steamdeck.

Visual improvements

● Horizon clipping is set further in the distance to prevent an ugly cutoff.
● Minor post-processing and sky colour changes.

● Fixed that NPC settlement houses don’t despawn over time.
● Trade harbour connections no longer get removed when in the scenario menu.
● Fixed resources not being transported along pathways more than 20 towers away (due to trade routes for instance).
● The Advisor no longer pops up in the settings, controller, game help or Twitch menus.
Splinters aren’t shown or triggered in freebuild.
● Houses don’t upgrade or downgrade in free build dynamically.
● Removed some conflicts in the resource network, where superior resource access wasn’t given to a tower because it was closer to a lesser resource route.
● Prevented a half-working pause menu from appearing over the scenario selector menu
● The descriptive text of the inventory screen is now correct and shows text for all extractor types.
● Rewind animation in photo mode now doesn’t affect the population.
● Removed advisor saying “new units available” when the battlegroup is full.

Bulwark: Architecture and Accuracy Update

Today is a big update! We’re excited to share with you a preview of some of the great stuff that’s coming in the Architecture and Accuracy Update for Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles.

First of all, we want to remind everyone that can try those updates first via the Steam Beta patch. It’s a combination of a massive rebalance and systems refactor, mostly based on player feedback and some new top-tier buildings for the Imperial, Mancer and Bannerless factions. It’s best not to tell but show some of the changes as these are new buildings your population can build if they have acces to enough resources. Yes, your population will now take resources into account when building their houses and industry, with the topmost result being these larger “apartment building” scale buildings. On top of that the factions have gotten a few more flourishes to make them unique. Especially the Mancer and Bannerless, their settlements should look more cohesive and well “factional” with more differences. Mancers for instance have ominous ‘Minas Morgul’ style floodlights to enhance their already dark vibes. All the things you see in videos and screenshots are still under development.

You can briefly see all changes and content awaiting you in the upcoming update. Have a look at Tomas Sala update preview video:

The Bannerless gets an alternative citadel design just like the other factions in Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles already had:

Bulwark Architecture and Accuracy Update

Lighting settings are improved and expanded colour gradients:

Bulwark Architecture and Accuracy Update

The Imperial architecture will be enhanced too, with its top-tier buildings, larger scale and stronger interior spaces. Take a look at their settlements:

Bulwark Architecture and Accuracy Update

Also expect changes and upgrades in: Soul Tree, resources system, inventory, merchants, Gotham City-like buildings, and lots more reasons to use built-in photo mode!

We hope you enjoy this new update and perhaps have a think if you wanna try out the beta branch if you have bought Bulwark on Steam already!

Guidance:

  • Added text at the end of the tutorial end-screen to include prompts about extractors and the soultree.
  • Added a tips and tricks section to the pause menu, which will be updated over time.
  • Rearranged the Map/Soultree/Inventory menus to be more visible.
  • Soultree button added to the pause menu.
  • Inventory button added to the pause menu.
  • The Soultree now shows locked Captains and Commanders.
  • Freebuild now has a spoken intro.
  • When an outpost or extractor is targeted by the enemy, a warning is given.

Feature Tweaks:

  • Moved the command tower worker cost from above the towers to within the building overview UI.
  • The max amount of tower floors in Freebuild is now always 20.
  • If a faction is fully defeated, no more random combat events or big raids are spawned from them.
  • Even if a Captain is unhappy with the dominant faction, he will still accept trade routes that connect to settlements of his own faction.
  • Leaders can only be assigned if their faction is the dominant faction unless they’re near an embassy.
  • Added additional map markers to the pool for giant settlements.
  • Captains now show what they transport on the map even if you selected the endpoint.
  • Opening/Closing the map no longer interupts the Advisor.

Balancing:

  • Gun towers now have more hit points.
  • Improved the range and safety impact of the lighthouse which now also affects endpoint harbors.
  • Settlement defending parties have been buffed significantly with more units.
  • Outposts and extractor hit points have been increased.
  • Top level raids have increased in strength.
  • Added more refugee encounters.
  • Most resource areas now have a little more supply and range, especially wood.
  • Hostile raid scenario setting now also controls shipping raids.
  • Refugee outposts appear for longer now.
  • Improved the rate at which additional Resource Extractors and Resource buff Commanders.

Bugs:

  • Leaders don’t get removed if the dominant faction is one they dislike.
  • Fixed when you save during the loss of a surveyor, you will now get a new one at load.
  • Fixed when you try to assign Captains during the loss of a surveyor, the menu won’t lock.
  • Fixed the menu overlap on max UI scale.
  • Commanders now don’t infinitely spawn units if your battlegroup reaches its cap.
  • Faction influence per building now correctly appears in the flow for command towers, harbors and outposts.
  • The Bannerless capital airship now has a proper name.
  • When an outpost or extractor is destroyed by the enemy, it’s connected walkways are now also destroyed.
  • You can no longer wipe the tutorial progress even if you haven’t done anything.
  • Removing a mawspring or Oberon’s gate will no longer grant you an outpost in your inventory.
  • Prevented an exploit which allowed you to start with many units.
  • Fixed selecting fast travel on the map when over another clickable item would prevent the button from being used.
  • 10 Killcount achievement updated so it doesn’t unlock at 50.
  • Friendly turrets cannot fire on your battlegroup.
  • The encounter question mark won’t point to non existing locations.
  • Fixed the Bannerless Captain who doesn’t’ transport people, so they now dislikes the Mancer rather than Imperials as expected.
  • Fixed the Mawspring to be less destructive. It now only destroys buildings inside its safe zone, if demolished.
  • Fixed that resource capacities don’t reset on load (free replenish).
  • Fixed that some random encounters (resource masters and Atun) would go unresponsive because another had spawned.
  • Fixed resource anamolies not spawning on the resources.
  • Faction politics now reset if you reset a scenario.
  • The surveyor remains responsive when switching to it amongst a large settlement section.
  • Fixed that resource depletion turned off would deplete all resources.
  • Skybridges can no longer end floating in air.
